CO₂ balance sheet and Scope 1-3: our climate impact at a glance
A CO₂ balance - also known as a carbon dioxide balance, greenhouse gas balance or CO₂ footprint - provides information on how many CO₂ emissions are caused by a person, process or company in a certain period of time. It is an essential tool for making climate impact measurable, identifying potential savings and deriving targeted climate protection measures.
CO₂ balancing at allsafe: data-based and transparent
We drew up our first carbon footprint back in 2012 based on company data from 2010. Since 2020, we have been recording and analyzing our CO₂ emissions annually based on current data. In 2021, we disclosed our carbon footprint for the first time in the official carbon footprint report. This is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the globally recognized standard for greenhouse gas accounting. To calculate our CO₂ emissions, we use precise conversion factors - for example from suppliers, energy providers or vehicle data. If we do not have these values, we use the ProBas database of the Federal Environment Agency.
Scope 1-3: Classification of our emissions
Our CO₂ balance sheet follows Scope 3 reporting, which differentiates between emissions caused directly and indirectly:
Scope 1
Includes all direct emissions that come from the company's own sources. This includes our natural gas-powered heating systems and our company car fleet.
Scope 2
Scope 3
With our transparent carbon footprint, we create the basis for climate-friendly corporate development - data-based, comprehensible and with a clear focus on sustainability. We are guided by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and are continuously working to make our data more complete and detailed. We see significant potential for improving the informative value of our data by regularly querying the values and involving our suppliers.Estimated values, completeness (machines, cloud) Always work to ensure that they are detailed, to query data monthly and to involve suppliers. It is important to implement a continuous improvement process. We see potential for improvement. You can find our entire CO2 report here.
CO² compensation
We have decided to offset our CO2 emissions from Scope 1-3 at company level. Since 2022, we have been focusing on a long-term and comprehensive offsetting project that not only reduces CO₂ emissions, but also makes a sustainable, climate-positive contribution. Together with our partner organization Fair Climate Fund from Utrecht/Netherlands, we support the Birds, Bees & Business (BBB) project in Burkina Faso. Here, women in shea butter production are offered a perspective: They receive micro-credits to build up their business and are trained in the construction and use of effective cooking stoves. These save wood and thus directly reduce CO₂ emissions. At the same time, shea trees and insect-friendly plants are planted to strengthen nature in the long term. Through this project, we are not only promoting climate protection, but also social justice and ecological diversity - for a sustainable future. The CO2 compensation for 2024 amounted to a total of 542t of CO2 emissions.
